Zoolooks

Zoolooks - the connection between humans and etherial beings. Stuck between the state of man and animal in the dawn of times.
As the bridge between nature and mankind, they all had an animal form to shapeshift to - a totem, a spirit who chose them for their duty to maintain this delicate balance in ancient times.
However, as times changed, humanity turned to multiple religions and technology, forsaking nature slowly but surely... thus, the zoolooks, as well. This led from treating them as sacred messager to freaks of nature.

Nowaday, zoolooks and their matriarchic system has smoothly blent into the society of mankind. They work and live, as they do... yet, they gather from time to time, maintaining their rituals and customs, and rely on their matriarch's lead.

They could never dream about becoming bridges of mankind and nature, ever again. They hadn't been more than that.
